Since the start of the new year, new Chinese-style clothing has witnessed an explosive growth. Its transaction volume has surged by 120% year-on-year, and the order momentum remains strong, with deliveries scheduled until after the Spring Festival.
During the New Year's Day holiday in 2025, the trend of new Chinese-style clothing continued from 2024, becoming the biggest highlight in the consumer market at the beginning of the year. Data showed that from January 1st to 4th, the transaction volume of new Chinese-style clothing, represented by horse-face skirts and Song brocade jackets, increased by over 120% year-on-year. The core consumer group was concentrated in the 25-34 age bracket, with products priced between 500-2000 yuan being the most popular.
Many stores in Hangzhou Huanbei Silk Garment City have once again shown the "best-seller effect". The owner of "Sisters' Clothing" revealed, "The horse-face skirt is a best-seller all year round. During the New Year's Day period, we received thousands of orders, and most of our customers purchase in bulk." Meanwhile, the old seamstress Qi Zhen from the traditional custom workshop on Jingfang Road is extremely busy. She said, "We started receiving Spring Festival orders in October 2024, and currently, non-urgent orders have been scheduled until after the New Year. The production time for a 'Dragon and Phoenix Wearing Lotus' Song brocade jacket is about half a month." Materials such as satin and mink velvet, as well as auspicious patterns like "Eight Treasures and Gourd" and "Everything Goes Well," have become popular MTM SUIT choices for the New Year. The star-endorsed outfits on CCTV's New Year's Day gala further fueled the consumption boom.
Zhou Jin, Secretary-General of the Hubei Provincial Garment Chamber of Commerce, analyzed that the explosion of new Chinese-style clothing stems from the enhancement of cultural confidence and design innovation. Traditional elements such as buttons and embroidery are combined with modern tailoring, making it extend from festival wear to diverse scenarios such as daily commuting and visiting scenic spots. It is estimated that the market size of China-Chic clothing will reach 250 billion yuan by 2025.
